Sensei Sherwood's Ultimate Black Belt Test
challenges him to not only walk 1000 miles himself, he needs to inspire 100 other people to do the same.
That isn't as tough a task as it may seem at first glance. We've figured out that one mile equals about 2640 steps, or 2,640,000 steps for 1000 miles. 10,000 steps is the daily recommendation of most health officials,
so the challenge is easily completed in only 200 days.
To this end, we've come up with a fun walking program. There are 35 members of Sensei's UBBT team.
On the wall in the dojo is a map of our United States with arrows pointing at each of the 35 cities
in which the 35 team members are located stretching from Manchester, NH to Sacramento, CA, where
Sensei's UBBT Coach, Master Tom Callos, is located. We're going to (virtually!) walk to each of
the team's dojos for a quick visit and learn a little about the team members, their dojos and the
style of martial art that they teach.
Here on this webpage, you can log new distances walked, view your personal entries, view the
schools progress, and link to the UBBT website for more information about other challenges the
UBBT participants will and have faced.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Sheild has graciously donated some pedometers for our cause. If you
don't have access to a pedometer of your own, please see Mrs. Sherwood for one.
As always, Sensei Sherwood greatly appreciates your help with this challenge he's undertaken.
We can have some fun, help our Sensei, learn more about other martial artists and their styles and
get into better shape as well. It's a WIN - WIN situation!
